Arctic Race of Norway and Equinor are pleased to announce that they will continue their partnership until 2021 and will strengthen Equinor’s positioning as the main partner of the event. Their core focus is to encourage cooperation and development at the local and regional level in Northern Norway, as well as to inspire generations of young talents.

Showcasing Norwegian scenery

The Arctic Race of Norway is the northernmost cycling race in the world, created in 2013. The annual event showcases the extraordinary natural beauty of Northern Norway, encourages local and national cooperation, and is a source of pride for Norwegians everywhere. 'The race above the Arctic Circle' is now broadcast in 190 countries around the world, by 39 different broadcasters.

Reidar Gjærum, senior vice president for Corporate Communication in Equinor, believes that the Arctic Race of Norway is a great match for Equinor’s vision and future developments.

"The Arctic Race of Norway has become one of Norway’s most popular sports events, and Northern Norway is strategically important to Equinor. We want to help promote the region and drive industrial development and growth. We look forward both to this year’s Arctic Race of Norway, and to our further partnership," says Gjærum.

Talent comes together

The Equinor Arctic Heroes of Tomorrow Race brings young people together during the Arctic Race of Norway. More than 120 riders, aged 17 and 18, take part in the international event, and are inspired by some of the best cyclists in the world. Two legends of cycling, Mark Cavendish and Thor Hushovd, will be the ambassadors of the Equinor Arctic Heroes of Tomorrow Race this year.

"The vision of the Arctic Race of Norway is to be much more than just a race. The partnership with Equinor gives us the opportunity to engage in developing new talents and to help them fulfil their dreams as athletes. Our partnership also reflects that we are both committed to the economic development and attractiveness of Northern Norway," says CEO of Arctic Race of Norway Knut-Eirik Dybdal.
