The Norwegian salmon industry creates value and provides the basis for large-scale food production both locally and nationally. – Actually just a small step close to the road where the world’s premier cyclists compete during the Arctic Race of Norway.
Here in the North, salmon has an optimal nurturing environment with fresh, cold water in a cool climate. TV 2 is Norway’s biggest commercial broadcaster, founded in 1992 when the Norwegian government first allowed national commercial TV. The TV 2 Group transmits on one main channel, as well as a number of niche channels. Among those is TV 2 Nyhetskanalen, which has broadcast news 24 hours a day since 2007. Purple t-shirts and balloons will be visible as Bufetat, region north continue working on promoting and recruiting foster homes.
Before last years race Bufetat, region north came together with Arctic Race of Norway as a Charity partner. Through this partnership, we want to honor foster families, increase knowledge about the needs in the region and recruit more foster homes. In addition, we wish to draw attention to the importance of being able to provide foster children positive interests and experiences, where they get the opportunity to experience success. This partnership builds on ARN’s vision of being ”more than just a bike race.”
Last year we were visible along all the stages with our purple t-shirts and balloons. This, along with wellmanned stands and other activities, gave results. After the race we saw that the number of inquiries from people who wanted to become foster parents increased by 213 percent the week after the northern Norwegian bike festival. With lessons learned from last year still fresh in memory, we will continue the success and hope to pique the interest of even more potential foster families this year.

The Office for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufetat) is responsible for matters relating to statefunded child welfare services, family counselling and adoption. Bufetat is divided into five regions and an overall executive body, called the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir). The need all foster children have in common is to have grown-ups in their lives that can offer them security, care and love in their upbringing. Diversity in the foster children calls for a diverse amount and provision of foster homes. What all foster homes have in common is that they consist of parents with good parenting skills and extra energy for the children. In Northern Norway roughly 1250 children and youths live in foster homes. Every child needs a supporting family that can assist them in reaching their full potential. A good upbringing lasts a life time!
