Guillermo Thomas Silva: "I attacked at the crucial moment"

Winner of Stage 3 of the Arctic Race of Norway, Guillermo Thomas Silva (XDS Astana) is the first Uruguayan rider to win a stage of the race and to lead the general classification. He triumphed atop Storheia and will attempt to retain his Midnight Sun jersey in Narvik tomorrow.

“I’m very happy. It was a very difficult finish for me, but I found my rhythm on the climb, waited, attacked at the crucial moment and managed to win. [Lennert Van Eetvelt] attacked first, I managed to pass him, but it was very hard.”

“The team believed in me and it’s great to be able to reward them like this. We knew this wasn’t the most suitable finish for me, but we tried anyway and I’m very happy to give them this victory.”

“Tomorrow’s finish suits me better, so I’m going to try to enjoy it and hold on to the overall lead.”
