Norwegian day
July 10 th 2017 - 16:59
The Norwegian Minister for Culture and Sports, Linda Hofstad Helleland was the guest of honour today. The State official paid a behind the scenes visit to the 9th stage between Nantua and Chambéry, which is one of the toughest of the 2017 Tour de France. Linda Hofstad Helleland also congratulated the day’s winners on the ceremonial podium in the company of Christian Prudhomme, stage winner….and the Yellow Jersey…
The Chambéry crowd was treated to a one of a kind show on the final 200 metres of the stage: a contest between Norwegians pitting Thor Hushovd on his bicycle against cross-country skiing World Champions Nicklas Dirhaug and Didrik Tønsethon their roller-skis.
Thor Hushovd, twice winner of the Tour de France green jersey: “To return to the Tour de France is very special for me. The Norwegian day let us celebrate both cycling and Norway and to bring attention to the 2017 edition of the Arctic Race of Norway that begins in a month.”
Didrik Tonseth and Niklas Dyrhaug, cross-country skiing world champions: “To be at the Tour de France today was a unique experience. To take on the two-time winner of the green jersey and world champion on the final meters of the stage made our arm hair stand on end.”
