Arctic Race of Norway on a steady course towards a more sustainable race

August 11 th 2023 - 15:00 [GMT + 2]

Kempower is joining the Arctic Race of Norway as an official provider after supporting the event for two years.

In the tenth edition of the race, Kempower will deploy 18 of its mobile chargers to supply the 129 electric vehicles made by the automotive manufacturer Xpeng, new official car supplier.

The Arctic Race of Norway continues its collaboration with its social partner Bufetat, which works to protect children and guides foster families through the adoption process.

Kempower becomes official provider to the Arctic Race of Norway
Kempower, a manufacturer of fast charging solutions for electric vehicles, is coming on board as an official provider to the Arctic Race of Norway. The tenth edition of the race is scheduled for 17–20 August 2023. The partnership with Kempower will allow the organiser and the various teams to run a fleet of electric vehicles. In their aspiration to reduce the environmental footprint, the cooperation among partners, local authorities and the organiser has yielded the optimal charging solution, one that takes into account the fact that cycling races are a travelling event.   The tenth edition of the Arctic Race of Norway will get under way in Kautokeino and come to an end on North Cape four days later. This year, the carmaker Xpeng will supply 129 electric vehicles for the cycling teams and race organiser. This means the Arctic Race of Norway is poised to become the first ProSeries cycling race to deploy a 100% electric lightweight vehicle fleet. Kempower will provide the event with 18 mobile chargers to supply these vehicles along the course.   Local electricity suppliers —Alta Kraftlag, Hammerfest Energi and Repvåg Kraftlag— will allow the race to tap their grids to meet the event's charging requirements for the departure and arrival sites and, together with local authorities, to connect the mobile charging solutions provided by Kempower.

Knut-Eirik Dybdal, General Director of the Arctic Race of Norway:
"Kempower showed it was a reliable charging partner in the two previous editions of the Arctic Race of Norway. We appreciate the commitment of the Kempower team, which will roll out temporary charging infrastructure to make sure the race goes without a hitch for the participants and our staff. We are pleased to recognise Kempower as an official provider for this year's event."

The Arctic Race of Norway strives to reduce its footprint
The Arctic is one of the regions that bear the brunt of climate change. Year after year, the race strives to make a positive impact on Northern Norway and burnish its sustainable credentials through environmental and social initiatives. It also wishes to promote cycling within communities to help usher in the urban and sustainable mobility of the future.   The Arctic Race of Norway has been awarded the Eco-Lighthouse certification, the most widely used environmental certification scheme in Norway. It recognises and certifies environmentally responsible pledges, with a focus on reducing the environmental footprint, and guarantees that the organisation takes the environmental dimension into account.

Bufetat, the social partner of the Arctic Race of Norway
Bufetat, the Office for Children, Youth and Family Affairs, has been the social partner of the Arctic Race of Norway since 2015. Its role is to find foster families according to the needs and to check that they are ready to host a child under the best conditions.   During the race, the foster families participate in many activities linked to the event. Every morning, during the rider sign-in, the Viking Jersey is given by a foster child to the rider who will wear this "best teammate of the day" jersey during the stage. Numerous Bufetat ambassadors clad in purple line the roads to cheer for the riders and promote the organisation.   The Arctic Race of Norway is involved in social initiatives, including races for children aged 5 to 12 organised by Sparebank 1 Nord-Norge, to introduce youngsters to cycling. The race is also collaborating with "Idretten Skaper Sjanser", an association that aims to reintegrate prisoners or people with addictions through sport, and they will ride the entire ARN course this year as they did in 2021 and 2022.
